The invitation of Islam to the King of Rome (Part 3/3): the messenger’s journey back home

The carrier of the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه و سلم letter to the Caesar was Dihyah Al Kalbi  رضي الله عنه. Dihyah was instructed to hand over the letter to the Ruler of Busra who would deliver it to the Caesar.

In Hasma, on his way back to Madinah, Dihyah was intercepted by a gang of highway robbers from Banu Juzàm. He returned home with nothing as the thugs had robbed him of everything he had been carrying. As soon as Dihyah informed the Prophet of what had happened, an army of five hundred fighters headed by Zaid ibn Harithah رضي الله عنه was dispatched to Bani Juzàm. Their advance resulted in a deadly attack of the tribe and returning to the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم with booty and captives.

Zaid ibn Rufàa’h Al Juzàmi, one of the leaders of Banu Juzàm, rushed to Madinah. He, along with a group from the tribe had embraced Islam. They had also assisted Dihyah in his time of need against the robbers. Thus, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم returned the booty and released the captives.
