دار محمد Daar Muhammed

Abdullah ibn Ummi Maktoum رضي الله عنه  was a blind Companion and an early Muslim. Oneday he came while the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم was speaking to a Qurashi noble whose Islam he desired very much. Abdullah hadn’t realized that the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم was busy. He called out to him: ’Teach me from what Allah taught you!’ The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم wished he’d hold back so that he could continue his discussion with the Qurashi noble. But Abdullah insisted. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم turned to him and frowned before turning back to finish his discussion. Thus, Allah revealed to His Prophet:

عَبَسَ وَ تَوَلَّى. أَنْ جَآءَهُ الْأعْمَى. وَ مَا يُدْرِيْكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّى. أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَى. أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَى. فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّى. وَ مَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّى. وَ أَمَّا مَنْ جَآءَكَ يَسْعَى. وَ هُوَ يَخْشَى. فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّى.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ…

(سورة عبس1-10)

He frowned and turned away. Because there came to him the blind man. And how can you know that he might become pure (from sins)? Or he might receive admonition, and the admonition might profit him?

As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient,

To him you attend;

What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief)?

But as to him who came to you running,

And is afraid (of Allah and His punishment).

Of him you are neglectful and divert you attention to another,

Nay, this (advice/verses/the Qura’n) is an admonition…

(Suratu ‘Abasa 1-10)

Hence, Allah commands His Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم that he should be equal between everyone in giving admonition be them eminent or weak; rich or poor; master or slave; man or woman; old or young. Thereafter, Allah guides whom He wills to the Straight Path. And Allah has profound wisdom and competent authority.

After this, when the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم  would see Ibn Ummi Maktoum approaching he would say: ‘Welcome to the one due to whom Allah reprimanded me’.
