The Beginning of Revelation-2/2

The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم rushed down the mountain trembling in fear. When he reached home he cried: ‘Cover me up! Cover me up!’ When he settled down a little he told his wife, Khadijah رضي الله عنه, about the strange incident that had taken place in the cave. He was still scared. ‘I feared for my life’, he said.

‘Never!’ Khadijah said firmly, ‘By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You join ties of kinship, speak the truth, help the needy, earn and spend on the poor, feed the guest and assist those in misfortunes’.

She then took him to Waraqah, a man of age and wisdom who was her cousin. He was a true Christian; following the teachings of ‘Isa (Jesus). He used to read the Gospel and thus had knowledge about the Scriptures unlike the majority of the dwellers of Makkah at the time who were idol-worshippers. He understood Muhammad’s vision and recognized the facts. ‘This is the angel Allah sent to Musa (Moses)’, he said when Muhammad finished narrating what had happened in the cave, ‘I wish I could be strong, I wish I could be alive when your people drive you out’. ‘Will they drive me out?’, Muhammad asked. ‘Yes’, the old man said, ‘No man has come with the like of what you have come with except that he was shown enmity, if your day* meets me, I will assist you with strength‘.

That was Waraqah’s promise to the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم but he died before the Prophet was ordered by Allah to start calling to Islam.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم was 40 years old when the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to him. He recieved revelation for the next 23 years. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم would teach the verses to his Companions until they learnt them. They would memorize them, inscribe them and teach them to the next generation and thus the Qur’an reached us. May Allah shower his mercy and blessings on Muhammad, his family and his Companions forever and ever.

*the day you you invite people to the truth and are harmed as a result of that.
