As-Salah (the prayer): (1) Like a river by my door…

And perform As-Salat, at the two ends of the day and in some hours of the night [i.e. the five compulsory Salat (prayers)]. Verily, the good deeds remove the evil deeds. That is a reminder for the mindful. (11:114)

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (ral): The Messenger of Allah (sal) said:

“Tell me, what do you think if a river (flowed) by the door of any of you which he bathes in every day, five times, will any of his dirt remain?”

They said: “No, none of his dirt will remain”

He (sal) said: “That is the similitude of the five prayers, Allah erases the sins through them”.

-Bukhari, Muslim.

Narrated by Ibn Mas’ood (ral): I asked the Prophet (sal): “Which deeds are most beloved to Allah, Most High?”

He (sal) said: “Prayer at its (correct) time”

I asked: “Thereafter which?”

He (sal) said: “To be dutiful to (one’s) parents”

I asked: “Threafter which?”

He (sal) said: “Jihad in the Path of Allah”

Ibn Mas’ood said: “He told me these and had I asked for more, he would have increased me.”

-Bukhari, Muslim.
