Wounds to Worth

The game-changer comes when the abused realise that healing—shifaa’—can never come from the same source that broke them and made them question their worth. Whether in blood ties, marriage, friendship, or any other relationship.

Had this been any other dynamic, we’d call it absurd: to seek solace from the very place that causes the most pain. Yet, for the victim, it is all too familiar—to seek comfort, counsel, and advice from the very source of distress. The facade of kindness and care entraps a meek heart over and over again, only to shatter it again. Some call it the trauma bond, others emotional dependency to the abuser, sometimes despite knowing how damaging it is.

What does a mu’min (believer) do at this moment?

He chooses dignity.

However hard it is to do so, the believer looks inwards and chooses what is right—by his Faith and the dignity that carries. Gradually, he finds his ground. And with each step forward, he carries himself to a better place, trusting his Lord in the changes he makes for himself.

For indeed, Allah helps those who help themselves.
